Choral Society of Durham’s Virtual Sing-Along of Haydn’s Mass in Time of War

Spring into Spring 2022 by joining the Choral Society of Durham for another virtual Sing-Along. You don’t need to be a great singer or know the music. Join them online for the sheer joy of singing and making music with other people! Invite friends and family members, and see what it’s like to sing with other singers who share a passion for great choral music. Their conductor Rodney Wynkoop will lead participants. The music will be provided to you online once you register. Their sing-alongs are followed by socials… so bring your own refreshments!

For this installment of their Sing-Along, they’ll be singing Haydn’s Mass in Time of War. Like Haydn’s beloved Creation, this is late Haydn and full of great choral singing. It’s alternate name, Paukenmesse (Timpani Mass) comes from the ominous timpani sounds that Haydn wrote to symbolize the threat of a French invasion of Austria. The dramatic effect is heightened by the words that follow as the Mass comes to an end: Dona nobis pace (grant us peace).
