Peacemaking Concert with SONAM
SONAM (Singers of New and Ancient Music) will present an hour-long concert at United Church of Chapel Hill on the themes of comfort and peace. The 30-Voice Choir will present music from a variety of countries and eras marking this difficult historical moment, with the goal of offering solace to the weary, comfort to the bereaved, and strength to move forward. The Peacemaking Concert supports scholarships for graduating seniors in Chapel Hill and Carrboro who will pursue a curriculum in college toward peacemaking. Since 2009, 38 scholarships, each valued at $1,000, have been awarded to local high school seniors who aspire to a career in peacemaking. Recipients demonstrated their commitment to peacemaking by describing how their activities, studies, and career goals relate to one or more of six peace-related focus topics: non-violent conflict resolution, depolarization, global community, social justice, ecology, and/or population.
