Alto and Bass Section Leaders

Duke University Chapel in Durham, North Carolina, seeks an alto/mezzo-soprano and a bass/baritone to join its roster of section leaders and staff singers for the Duke Chapel Choir and the Duke Chapel Evensong Singers. The positions require solo experience, choral singing skills, and sight-reading proficiency. The ideal candidates will also have experience coaching amateur singers in occasional sectional rehearsals.

Duke Chapel Choir, led by Dr. Zebulon Highben (Director of Chapel Music) rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm until 8:30pm, and sings at the Chapel’s regular Sunday morning services.

Duke Chapel’s Evensong Singers is led by Dr. Philip Cave and rehearses Monday evenings and leads Evensong Services in the Anglican tradition on alternating Sunday afternoons at 4pm.

Auditions are approximately 30 minutes in length. Applicants should prepare two contrasting songs/arias, and be ready to show aptitude in sight-singing. Bass/Baritone Section Leader

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Durham, NC, has an opening for a Bass/Baritone Section Leader. Help lead inspiring liturgy and music as a member of the Parish Choir.

Weekly Stipend ($135 for Choir Rehearsal and Service)
Wednesday 7:00-8:30 pm pm Choir Rehearsal
Sunday 9:30 Choir Warm-up followed by 10:15 Eucharist (9:30-11:30 am)
Additional seasonal liturgies for additional stipend (Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Advent, Choral Evensong, etc.)

Bass/Baritone Staff Singer

Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church in Durham is looking for a Bass/Baritone staff singer to come and join our wonderful Trinity choir! We are an incredibly welcoming church that sings a diversity of music.

We offer lots of solo opportunities if desired, as well as opportunities to sing with a professional ensemble, Trinity Choral Artists, for special projects. The Trinity choir sings on a few concerts and special services during the year, often featuring orchestra, as well as regular Sunday services from September-May.

We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm during the choir year (September-May)
Sundays are a 9:15 call and a 10am service

Scheduling is flexible as we know many artists juggle many different commitments, however we ask that you sign out at least 6 weeks in advance so a substitute can be found for you.

The pay is $60/call

Staff Singers / Choral Scholars

The music ministry of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church is seeking 3 Staff Singers/Choral Scholars (Soprano, Alto, Tenor) for 8 weeks in the Fall (Wed., Oct. 21 through Sun., Dec. 13, 2026) and 8 weeks in late Winter/early Spring (Wed., Feb. 13 through Easter Sun., March 28, 2027).

Rehearsals are on Wednesdays (7:00-8:30 pm) and worship services on Sundays (10-11:30 am). Repertoire consists of a variety of choral music, including modern traditional, light classical, hymn-based arrangements, mostly accompanied with occasional a cappella.

Singers are expected to:
Be present at every rehearsal and service during the 8-week sessions.
Prepare repertoire independently before rehearsals.
Serve as reliable section leaders, modeling strong vocal production with solid sight-reading skills.
Demonstrate fluency & versatility in many singing styles, providing a robust choral core.
Relate well to volunteer members of varying abilities.

Compensation is $100/week ($50 per call).
