The Winston-Salem Youth Chorus (formerly Winston-Salem Children’s Chorus) was founded by Director Barbara C. Beattie in 1993. It consists of four singing groups with choristers ages 8 through 18. WSYC is dedicated to educating talented youth in music and choral skills while offering them abundant opportunities to share their talents locally and beyond. Singers learn vocal technique, music theory, performance and sight-singing skills, and music in multiple languages. Members represent more than 40 schools in Forsyth and surrounding counties.
Winston-Salem Choral Artists is a professional chamber choir led by artistic director and conductor Dr Chris Gilliam. Based in Winston-Salem, NC—the City of Arts and Innovation—its mission is to perform, share and advocate for highest-level choral artistry within the local community, in the surrounding region and nationally.
Winston-Salem Choral Academy (WSCA) is a community organization for auditioned young singers from Winston-Salem and surrounding areas. Founded in 1999, WSCA’s mission is to offer a joyful and empowering experience for children and youth through vocal music education and artistic excellence in choral music performance.
The chorus serves girl singers from Kindergarten - 12th grades, and boy singers from 1st- 6th grades, directed by Anne Saxon, Suzanne Maggs, Anna Wade, and Brandon Wimbish.
Men’s a cappella ensemble singing primarily barbershop style music. A dynamic show chorus, THE is known for performing scripted two-hour shows based on themes such as Las Vegas, 1940’s Radio Shows and Westerns. Additionally, they compete twice a year in district competitions, always finishing near the top.
Piedmont Opera produces the highest quality opera productions possible by using international, national, regional and local professional singers and technicians. Piedmont Opera currently attracts patrons from 16 states and communities throughout the Piedmont, Upstate, and Virginia. Since 1978, Piedmont Opera has performed over 48 different productions to an audience of over 150,000 people. In addition to two regularly scheduled productions each year, Piedmont Opera also conducts a wide variety of educational and outreach programs.
