Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church: An Advent Vivaldi and Bach Concert

Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church (TAPC) is collaborating with Mallarmé Music to present a concert of sacred Baroque music featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria, RV 589, and J.S. Bach’s cantata, BWV 62.

The Gloria is today one of the best known compositions of Antonio Vivaldi and one of the most frequently performed examples of sacred music from the Baroque era.  It is thought to have been written in about 1715 AD for the residents of the Ospedale della Pietà one of four charitable institutions for the orphaned and abandoned  girls of Venice.

Johann Sebastian Bach composed the cantata Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Now come, Savior of the heathens), BWV 62, in Leipzig for the first Sunday in Advent and first performed it on 3 December 1724. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Martin Luther.

For our concert on 6 Dec 2025, the orchestra is provided by Mallarmé Chamber players using period instruments.  Choral performances are  by TAPC Choir and Choral Artists.  Soloists include Monica Music, Kirsten Overdahl, David Wiehle, and Christopher Short.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted towards the TAPC Elizabeth Andrews Emergency Assistance Fund which helps people in Durham who are facing eviction from their home or utilities disconnection.
