Carolina Harmony headed to Sweet Adelines International!

The Best Small Chorus in the World is Right here in Raleigh, and They’re Heading to Their Next International Singing Competition!

Carolina Harmony Chorus, a local singing group that holds the current title of best small chorus, will compete at the Sweet Adelines International competition in Louisville, Kentucky on November 2, 2023 after winning their 2022 Regional competition. Although the chorus has come out on top in the small chorus division at both regional and international competitions, this is their first win overall against choruses of all sizes. That win qualified Carolina Harmony to advance to the International level main event where they will represent region 14, which covers Virgina, the Carolinas, and Georgia. 

Sweet Adelines is an international singing organization of barbershop style a cappella women’s choruses and quartets from all over the world, including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and North America. Competition judges evaluate the contestants for sound, music, expression, and visual communication. 

Chorus President, Christine Tenejkian, says members are thrilled to be headed for the “big stage” where they will compete against choruses up to 6 times their size. “We’ve had a lot of success in the small chorus division, but an overall win is a first for us!”  Director Susie Smith says this opportunity will “propel the chorus to new heights. This is something we’ve worked so hard for.”

Carolina Harmony Chorus currently has 25 competing singers.  In addition to their 2022 regional overall win, the chorus has many small chorus division A regional championships under their belts, as well as 3 Harmony Classic International small chorus division A championships, a title they currently hold. Their success and their small size has earned them the nickname “small, but mighty.”
