Duke Chapel Choir: Auditions & Open Rehearsals

Founded in 1932, the Duke University Chapel Choir is the oldest established music ensemble at Duke University. The 100-voice Chapel Choir performs a wide variety of sacred choral repertoire, presented in weekly Sunday morning worship services at Duke Chapel.

The Chapel Choir also presents two major choral-orchestral concerts each season, including its December performances of Handel’s Messiah—a Duke tradition since 1933. Each year more than 3,000 people attend the sold-out Messiah performances; tens of thousands more enjoy the broadcast version online.

This year, the Chapel Choir also embarks on a spring tour to central Europe, including performances in Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.

Members of the Duke, Durham, and greater Triangle communities are invited to audition for the Chapel Choir’s 2026-27 season between August 20 and September 9. Tenors and Basses are especially needed. All are welcome to attend and sing in open rehearsals at the Chapel on August 19 and August 23.
