Oak City Voices Present “Songs in Due Season”
This evocative choral concert will blend many musical styles around the central theme of the four seasons – all of which we are lucky to experience in North Carolina! From Stings’ “Fields of Gold” to lyrics from Robert Louis Stevenson’s “A Child’s Garden of Verses,” each selection elicits thoughtful and pleasant emotions. Some about the unfoldment and yearning of each season, some about sorrow, and some just plain delight! Audience members will enjoy composers from Barry Manilow to the lyrics of Emily Dickinson and the opportunity to hear “Grow” by Sarah Quartel, a popular and celebrated young choral composer.
The concert will be conducted by Oak City Voices Artistic Director, Russell McKinney with piano accompaniment by Martha Bass Abernathy. Natalie Elrod will be featured on cello for several selections.
Oak City Voices is an all women, inter-generational ensemble formed in 2016. The group performs a varied repertoire of classical to contemporary music in the Raleigh area, with the goal of fostering, promoting, and embracing our love of music through song. We welcome women from all cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life who wish to raise their voices in a community of song. Our mission also includes several free concerts yearly at area retirement homes and care facilities.
