Piedmont Opera Announces Youth Auditions for Bizet’s Carmen

Piedmont Opera, a professional opera company based in Winston-Salem, announces auditions for talented youth singers from the Triad area to participate in our upcoming production of Bizet’s Carmen. Anne Saxon of the Winston-Salem Choral Academy is the Children’s Chorus Master at Piedmont Opera.

Eligibility:

• Must appear to be between the ages of 8–12

• Must be able to sing independently

• Must demonstrate a high level of commitment (signed contract required)

Production Details:
Selected singers will perform onstage as part of the children’s chorus in village scenes. Music will be sung in French (taught during rehearsals).

• Performance Dates: Friday, March 27 (7:30 PM curtain) & Sunday, March 29 (3:00 PM curtain)

• Performance Venue: High Point Theatre (220 E. Commerce Ave, High Point, NC 27260)

• Music Rehearsals (90 minutes):  Piedmont Opera House (636 Holly Ave., Winston-Salem, NC, near Calvary Moravian Church) 5:30 PM -7:00 PM

• Mondays: November 3, November 10, November 17, 2025

• Tuesdays: January 7, January 14, January 21 & January 28, 2026

• Wednesdays: February 4, February 11, February 18, February 2, February 25, 2026

• Staging Rehearsal: Winston-Salem, Location TBD​: February 28th – March 21st

• Technical Week: March 22 – 25 at High Point Theatre

Audition Process

Step 1: Video Submission: Deadline: October 15

• Submit a 1-minute video introducing the singer (name, age, grade) followed by a short performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” or another well-known, age-appropriate song (no pop music, please).

• Complete the audition form (Click here) and email the audition form and the video to carmenchildrenschorus@piedmontopera.org

Step 2: Results Notification

• Video audition results will be emailed by Sunday, October 19.

Step 3: In-Person Auditions

• For those selected, in-person auditions will be held on Thursday, October 24, from 4:00–7:00 PM.
