Sing-Along with the Choral Society of Durham

Join us as we kick off the third season of our highly popular virtual Sing-Along Series!!

Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem & Toward the Unknown Region

You don’t need to be a great singer or know the music. Just join us online for the sheer joy of singing and making music with other people! Invite friends and family members, and see what it’s like to sing with other singers who share a passion for great choral music. Our conductor Rodney Wynkoop will lead us. The music will be provided to you online once you register. Vaughan Williams’ poignant Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace), written when the suffering of WWI was still a fresh memory and the foreboding threat of WWII was beginning to be felt, is an ominous reminder of the tragic human cost of war. Texts from Walt Whitman’s “Drum-Taps” are dramatically interwoven with texts from the Latin Mass and the English Bible. Toward the Unknown Region is a haunting setting of the poem “Darest thou now, O soul” from Whitman’s epic Leaves of Grass, inviting us to that place where there is no “voice sounding, nor touch of human hand.”

While participation is free, donations to support our outreach work will be greatly appreciated.  We hope you’ll join us!
