So, why Second Shift, you ask? Well, all of us have day jobs, and we do this for the love of the music. Once we fit in other important things such as family, and having an occasional good time, sometimes it seems like there’s little time left over.

Sisters’ Voices – Chapel Hill Ensembles
Ensemble Type
Children’s/Youth Choruses
Musical Director
Leandra Merea Strope
Description

Sisters’ Voices is a choral community of girls, where singers are known and supported while being challenged to grow as musicians and as people.

Serving girls and gender expansive treble voices in grades K through 10, Sisters’ Voices leads singers through a progressive secular choral program focusing on world folk and western classical music. The Sisters' Voices curriculum intends to explore an expanding variety of musical styles, encourage development of each individual's musicianship, and provide a cooperative atmosphere where singers develop a sense of competence and confidence while creating close friendships and having fun together. Singers learn to read music and develop vocal independence through a study of solfege (do-re-mi), games, movement, and canon singing. Our middle school and high school ensembles include a leadership program, exploring issues that are important to the singers and further developing relationships.

The five Sisters' Voices ensembles perform two full concerts each year; older singers also appear at various events in the larger community.

Sisters' Voices offers a Summer Theater Workshop in June, and Camps in August that kick off our upcoming season.
